Mother pleads for cameras in special education classrooms

WFAA, Dallas · Jason Whitely · May 7, 2013

“For seven years, Breggett Rideau has pleaded for cameras in the classroom to protect special education students.”

WFAA followed Breggett’s fight as a bill requiring cameras in special education classrooms moved through the Texas Legislature in 2013. The story covered her son Terrence’s injuries at school, the views of teachers’ groups and special education administrators, and the cost estimates lawmakers were weighing.

“Breggett only wants accountability and to ensure school is a safe place for the most vulnerable children, including her only one.”

That effort became SB 507, signed into law on June 19, 2015.
